In the first days following Hamas’ October 7th attack, a group of Israeli documentary filmmakers, scholars and mental health professionals started to collect video testimony from survivors. Named Edut 710, for the Hebrew word for testimony, this project seeks to build a large video archive to document and preserve witness accounts of this terrible event and its repercussions. From the beginning, the team behind Edut 710 looked to the Fortunoff Video Archive in general, and the approach of Dr. Dori Laub in particular, as a model for documenting witness accounts of mass violence on video. Fortunoff Archive staff continue to serve in an advisory role for the project.

To learn more about the Edut 710 archive, visit their website:

Please join us for a discussion with the organization’s founders, Ohad Ufaz and Itay Ken-tor, both documentary filmmakers. Learn more about the challenges of collecting testimony from a contemporary event such as this, the development of the archive by hundreds of volunteers, and the relationship between the Edut 710 project and the Fortunoff Archive’s grassroots approach to collecting witness testimony.
